THE BEACH HOUSE

The original house was one story setback from a bank overlooking a beautiful beach, backing onto a quaint and charming  “streetscape” in the little town of Gibsons. The owner wanted to create a space that would realize one of the most beautiful views on the sunshine coast and create decks and easy access to the beach. Privacy was very important, so we had to find a way to provide access to the expansive views, and still feel totally private. Our design had to optimize the build while working around the cottage footprint. The owner wanted a beach house with a rustic feel and a great place to entertain.

The result – a two-story house carved out of the bank to provide more gradual access to the beach, beautifully and strategically landscaped to provide privacy. Outdoor covered dining space with a glass roof creating an “all-weather” option for being outside. All principle living spaces face the ocean with adjoining decks, a studio on the lower level with a covered patio. A media room is located in the back of the house. The kitchen embodies the owners love to cook with warm yellow “antiqued” boards and a grey stone fireplace that matches the beautiful hardwood floors.
