TURTLE ROCK - OCEANFRONT HOME

This was a beloved family summer seaside property that had a small and ageing family pan abode. The clients lived in Calgary and planned to move to the Sunshine Coast to retire. They loved the quaint cabin character but realized they needed a more functional space to really support their lifestyle. Central to the property was a large rock that was home to much wildlife, called Turtle Rock. The client wanted to take advantage of the view of the rock, have open airy, inside/outside spaces, and still keep some of the original characteristics of their Pan Abode. A special challenge was presented as everything accessible with wheelchair accessible, including a bar for entertaining.

The result – a beautiful open space with a Cottage feel on a single level with expansive views from living, family, and master bedroom.  And, a cozy guest bedroom that had the original panelling for their pan abode to keep the spirit of their summer memories alive. We were able to retain a private courtyard and fish pond in the back as a quiet refuge from the wind and waves.  Southern light filters through thru the fir trees, showcased by a 16ft glass living room wall facing the ocean. An equally dramatic floor to ceiling stone wall surrounds both an indoor fireplace and an outer fireplace on the deck. The outdoor living spaces provide south-east exposure for the morning coffee deck and a southwest afternoon and evening cocktail deck.
